Rupee rises by 9 paise at 83.19 per dollar in early trade

The rupee rose by nine paise to 83.19 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday. Forex traders said the weak trend of the US dollar globally and positive domestic market supported the local currency in early trade.
In the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 83.23 per dollar and later reached 83.19. This is an increase of nine paise compared to the previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 83.28 per dollar on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against six major currencies, was down 0.51 per cent at 106.34. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 1.05 per cent higher at $85.52 per barrel.
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market and sold shares worth Rs 1,816.91 crore on Wednesday.
