The rupee rose by six paise to 83.14 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday amid continued inflow of foreign funds and weak US currency.
Forex traders said that the weak trend in the domestic market and volatility in crude oil prices, however, limited the gains of the Indian currency. The rupee opened at 83.14 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market.
After trading between 83.12 and 83.16 against the US dollar, it touched 83.14 per dollar, an increase of six paise from its previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 83.20 against the US dollar on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US currency’s strength against six other currencies, was trading 0.02 per cent lower at 101.20.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.44 per cent to $77.49 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 4,358.99 crore on Thursday.
