Samsung introduces zero-click antivirus ‘Message Guard’

San Francisco: Tech giant Samsung has introduced a new ‘Samsung Message Guard’ security feature for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets to better protect users from ‘zero-click exploits’. The tech giant said in a blogpost on Friday that Samsung Message Guard Security takes it a step further and protects users’ devices by confining threats disguised as image attachments. Zero-click exploits are the new threat in an era of increasing cybercrime targeting user data. One in three consumers worldwide has been a victim of a data breach, where their personal data was hacked. The company noted that data breaches are on the rise, with rates more than tripling between 2013 and 2021.
The new Message Guard is an advanced “sandbox” or virtual quarantine of sorts. When an image file arrives, it gets stuck and gets disconnected from the rest of the device. The code is unable to access the user’s phone’s files or connect to its operating system. To make sure the file can’t affect the rest of the device, Message Guard checks and analyzes it bit by bit in a controlled environment. “Samsung Message Guard automatically neutralizes any potential threats hidden in image files before they have a chance to do you any harm,” the company said. “Samsung Message Guard is a solution for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. It will be gradually rolled out to other Galaxy smartphones and tablets later this year.
