Sol: Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest memory chip maker, said on Wednesday that macroeconomic uncertainties are likely to increase this year, but said it is embracing a new opportunity with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI). Chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee said at the annual shareholders’ meeting,
‘While uncertainties around macroeconomic factors are likely to increase this year, new opportunities will also arise through next-generation technological innovations, such as the full-scale AI era.’ Han told shareholders that the electronics giant will continue efforts to expand technological innovation in AI and new businesses to drive sustainable growth, Yonhap news agency reported.
Han said Samsung Electronics planned to pay dividends worth 9.8 trillion won (US$7.3 billion) for 2023. Last year, Samsung Electronics posted a net profit of 15.48 trillion won, down 72.2 percent from a year earlier, due to sluggish semiconductor demand. Last year, sales fell 14.3 percent year-on-year to 258.93 trillion won.
