Saudia Airlines Is Going To Be The First Foreign Airline To Land At Bengaluru Airport’s T2 Terminal: Saudi Arabia’s national airline Saudia Airlines will create history when it takes off at Bengaluru Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) on September 12. According to Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) sources, today (September 12) at 10:15 am, Jeddah to Saudia flight SV866 will land at T2 of Kempegowda International Airport. Saudia flight SV867, bound for Jeddah, will be the first flight to depart T2 at 11:50 am.

BIAL had first announced plans to start international operations at T2 on August 31. However, the company then changed its mind and extended the move till September 12. This decision was taken amid a hasty “review of final preparations”, which caused considerable inconvenience to BIAL. Embarrassment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened Terminal 2, also known as the “Terminal in the Garden”, in November 2022. Its development cost is approximately Rs 5,000 crore. Domestic operations began on January 15, 2023.

T2 is estimated to support 30 to 35 international departures per day from 27 airlines (25 foreign and two Indian). Meanwhile, domestic flights operated by Akasa Air, Alliance Air, IndiGo (domestic) and SpiceJet will land only at Terminal 1. Apart from foreign carriers, AirAsia, Air India, Star Air and Vistara will continue to operate domestic flights from T2.

Hari Marar, MD and CEO of BIAL, the company that runs KIA, said in an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol that international operations will be shifted to T2, and Terminal 1 (T1) will serve exclusively as the domestic terminal. Additionally, there are plans to refurbish KIA’s T1, which opened for business almost 15 years ago on 24 May 2008.
