SCO member countries unanimously accepted India’s proposal on Digital Public Infrastructure: Vaishnav

India has developed Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) like Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Aadhaar to facilitate easy delivery of services to the public. “The Digital Ministers of SCO member countries met today and unanimously accepted India’s proposal to introduce DPI for digital technology implementation in their respective countries,” Vaishnav said.
Member countries of the international body Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have unanimously accepted India’s proposal to develop a digital public infrastructure. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information on Saturday. Pakistan and China are also members of the SCO. India has developed Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) like Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Aadhaar to facilitate easy delivery of services to the public. “The Digital Ministers of SCO member countries met today and unanimously accepted India’s proposal to introduce DPI for digital technology implementation in their respective countries,” Vaishnav said.
SCO has eight member countries – China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Apart from these, there are four observer countries – Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia and six dialogue partners – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey. Government as part of its responsibility in G-20 chairmanship has started reaching out to offer technology benefits to various countries at no cost and it is expected that Indian startups will benefit from it. India has already tied up with about a dozen countries for UPI acceptance. BHIM UPI QR is currently accepted in Singapore, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mauritius, Nepal and Bhutan.
