Stock Market Closing Bell: There was a gloomy mood in the Indian stock market on the second trading day of the year. Sensex fell 342.64 points or 0.47 percent to 71,929.30 and Nifty fell 64.70 points or 0.30 percent to 21,677.20. Today about 1719 shares rose in the market, while 1589 shares fell and 79 shares remained unchanged. Top losers on Nifty were Eicher Motors, M&M, UltraTech Cement, L&T and Kotak Mahindra Bank, while gainers were Coal India, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, Divis Labs and Cipla. Among sectors, the pharma index is up 2.5 per cent, while auto, banks and information technology declined 1 per cent each. Metals, Oil & Gas and Healthcare indices closed up 0.5-1.5 per cent. Whereas Auto, Capital Good and Realty saw a decline of 1 percent each. Among Sensex companies, shares of UltraTech Cement, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Asian Paints, HCL Technologies and Larsen & Toubro were among the losers. Shares of Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv and Power Grid were among the gainers. In other Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai Composite are in loss. Midcap and small cap closed on a flat note.
