The decline in the stock market continues for the second consecutive day. On Wednesday’s trading day, the 30-share Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange saw a fall of 1628 points. This trend of decline continued on Thursday also. As soon as the market opened, the market plunged by more than 600 points. On Thursday, Sensex is trading below 71000 points. At the same time, Nifty of National Stock Exchange has also fallen by 150 points.
The entire market is witnessing a decline in the stock market amid global cues. Major stock indices Sensex and Nifty continued to fall for the third consecutive day in early trade on Thursday. Traders say that there is weakness in the market due to profit booking after the recent record rise. Apart from this, fresh selling of foreign funds also spoiled the sentiment of investors. During this period, the 30-share BSE Sensex fell by 561.05 points to reach 70,939.71. Nifty was down 165.6 points at 21,406.35.
HDFC shares fall
Along with this, the shares of the country’s largest HDFC Bank are also witnessing a decline. With the opening of the market, HDFC shares have seen a fall of two percent in 10 minutes. HDFC Bank shares had fallen by 2.42 percent in the morning. It was trading at Rs 1502.95. A day before this, HDFC Bank shares had seen a decline of more than eight percent.
The Sensex had reached an all-time high of 73,427.59 on Tuesday. On the same day, Nifty also touched its highest level of 22,124.15. After this rise, profit booking is being seen in the market. Among Sensex stocks, Power Grid, Asian Paints, Wipro, HDFC Bank, HCL Technologies, IndusInd Bank, NTPC and JSW Steel declined significantly. On the other hand, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, UltraTech Cement, Tata Motors and Reliance Industries were trading in the red.
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 10,578.13 crore on Wednesday. The Sensex on Wednesday closed 1,628.01 points or 2.23 per cent lower at 71,500.76, while the Nifty closed 460.35 points or 2.09 per cent lower at 21,571.95.
