san francisco (Uttam Hindu News): The publisher of Sports Illustrated has fired the magazine’s CEO Ross Levinsohn after the magazine published articles with non-existent writers and AI-generated profile pictures.
The Arena Group board of directors late Monday fired Lewinsohn and named Manoj Bhargava as interim chief executive officer.
“This follows last week’s action, in which the company terminated the employment of President of Operations and COO Andrew Craft, President of Media Rob Barrett and Corporate Counsel Julie Fenster,” the company said in a statement.
According to Futurism’s report, the AI scandal drew strong criticism from media coverage and outrage from the magazine’s staff.
“Effective immediately, Ross Levinsohn will be leaving the company and his role as CEO,” Grady Tripp, the company’s senior vice president, wrote in an email to employees.
“This follows the departure of three senior officials last week.”
Bhargava is the founder of energy drink brand 5-Hour Energy and majority investor in The Arena Group.
Arena Group owns brands such as Sports Illustrated, The Street, Parade, Men’s Journal and HubPages.
The company aggregates content across a diverse portfolio of over 265 brands, reaching over 100 million users monthly.
