Mumbai Major stock indices faced volatility in early trade on Monday due to weakness in US markets and rising crude oil prices. During this period, Sensex and Nifty opened with a rise, but could not maintain their lead in early trading. BSE’s 30-share Sensex rose 126.36 points to 72,769.79. Similarly, NSE Nifty was up 20.65 points at 22,044. Both the indices, however, soon lost early gains and went into the red.

Till the time of writing the news, Sensex was down 118.03 points at 72,525.40 and Nifty was down 56.70 points at 21,953.70. Among Sensex companies, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Axis Bank, Tata Motors and HCL Technologies were among the major gainers. On the other hand, Asian Paints, Power Grid, Titan and Maruti declined. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 848.56 crore on Friday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was up 0.36 percent at US $ 85.65 per barrel.
