Share Market Special Session: Saturday is usually a holiday in the Indian stock market. But today, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange are conducting a special trading session in the equity and equity derivatives segment to test their preparedness to deal with a major disruption or failure. During a particular trading session, transactions are processed through the primary site (PR) to disaster recovery (DR) will be transferred to the site and its functioning will be tested. Typically in the event of a major disruption or failure at the primary site, business is shifted to the DR site to continue. Two sessions will be held in both the stock markets. The first session will run from 9:15 am to 10 am on PR and the second session will run on DR site from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Decision taken after discussion with SEBI
The maximum price range of all securities (including securities containing derivative products) during the Share Market Special Session will be five percent. Whereas the securities already in the price band of two percent or less will remain available in their band only. This session is being organized after discussions with market regulator SEBI and their technical advisory committee. Its objective is to assess the preparedness of market infrastructure institutions to enable them to handle any unexpected event.
keep these things in mind
It is important to keep some things in mind during live trading sessions. During this period, the upper and lower circuit limit for securities in the special session will be up to 5 percent. During this time, such stocks which trade in F&O segment will also be included. In those securities which already have upper and lower circuit limits of 2 percent, the limit of 2 percent will continue. These measures prevent excessive volatility and maintain market stability during live trading sessions.
The market was also open on 20th January
Earlier the special session was to be organized on January 20. But on 22nd January, due to the consecration of Ram temple, the market was closed and flower trading session was organized on 20th January itself. Along with this, the stock market was closed on 22 January. Two trading sessions were to be organized on this day. The first special session was of 45 minutes and the second trading session was of 60 minutes.
