Livestock rearing is the main occupation of Shantaben Gohil, a resident of Nandrakha in Kadodara, near Dahej. In his family of 13 members, 15 acres of land is the source of income. He has the responsibility as the chairman of Nandarkha Milk Collection Center of Bharuch Dairy.
Keeps 7 milch animals for domestic consumption as well as source of income. However, due to the lack of water throughout the year, they could not do farming, as a result of which fodder for the cattle was a big challenge. Even after many efforts, animals are not able to give milk because they do not get the necessary nutritious food. In such a situation, the Kamdhenu Dairy Development Project of Adani Foundation has changed their standard of living!
About 150 kg of fodder is provided daily to the animals by the Adani Foundation. Livestock Development Centers (LDCs) are run by the Adani Foundation under BAIF with the objective of improving livestock breeding practices and animal breeds.
In which the shepherds are helped to grow green fodder and Azolla. Not only this, organic fertilizers are also produced from animal dung. Shantaben, a beneficiary of the Kamdhenu Dairy Development Project, says, “Grass farming has greatly improved our economic condition. I am amazed at the 20% increase in milk production in just two months with Adani Foundation’s fodder! Not only this, there has been a lot of improvement in the health and fitness of the animals.
Shantaben has not bought green fodder for the cattle from outside for the last six months. Also, seeing the huge income from milk, the members of the cooperative society have also become eager to take advantage of the Kamdhenu project for agriculture and animal husbandry. The Kamdhenu project has brought greenery to the lives of many beneficiaries like Shantaben.
