Surat: AESL commissions 2,500 MW Green Evacuation 400 KV System in Tamil Nadu. Loktej Surat, Business News

Adani Energy Solutions Limited, the largest private sector power transmission company in India, has announced the successful commissioning of the Karur Transmission Limited Project (KTL). The project comprises a 400/230 KV, 1000 MVA Karur Pooling Station and a transmission line spanning 8.51 Circuit Kilometers (CKM) in Tamil Nadu.

With a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA, the project will facilitate power evacuation through renewable sources in the Karur/Tiruppur wind energy region while strengthening the southern grid and supporting the integration of large scale renewable energy sources.

Karur/Tiruppur Wind Energy Zone is a major wind corridor in Tamil Nadu with significant potential and several under-construction wind farms. AESL was assigned this project to ensure green power evacuation of up to 2,500 MW generated in the region. The project is in line with India’s decarbonization goals supporting the country’s aim of achieving 500 GW of green energy by 2030. The project will provide industrial, commercial and residential consumers access to reliable and clean energy.

AESL had secured the project through Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) in December 2021 for a period of 35 years covering the construction, ownership, operation and maintenance basis of the entire project.

Despite several challenges, AESL considered the topological challenges and executed the project in fast-track mode, while minimizing the ecological impact. Several innovative approaches were adopted during this period, including use of high-boom RMC machines for concreting work, high-boom lifts and cranes for tower construction, and implementation of advanced cyber security endpoint solutions through latest SCADA systems.

AESL’s execution capacity can be seen through the construction of two 48-MT towers in less than 24 hours, which is much higher than the normal rate of 5-6 MT/day.

Apart from this, AESL has successfully completed important works like closure of 400 KV D/C Pugalur-Pugalur (HVDC) line and erection of tower structures, overcoming the constraints of the existing transmission line.

The completion of the KTL project further strengthens AESL’s position as India’s leading power transmission company. AESL has a portfolio of operational transmission projects and a number of other projects under various stages of construction.
