South Gujarat Power Company (DGVCL) plans to install smart prepaid meters, ushering in a new era for electricity consumers. On April 8, 800 smart meters will be installed at Suman Shail Apartment in Piplod Division. This will be the first apartment where smart meters will be installed. Over the next 18 months, DGVCL will install approximately 17 lakh prepaid meters in Surat circle.
Benefits of Smart Meter:
- The hassle of bills ends: With smart meters, consumers no longer have to wait for electricity bills. They will be able to recharge electricity as per their need.
- Power consumption control: Smart meters will help consumers keep track of their electricity consumption. They will be able to check their consumption through an app on their mobile phones.
- Lower electricity bill: Installing smart meters will reduce wastage of electricity, which can reduce electricity bills of consumers.
- Facility: Smart meters will provide many features to consumers, such as recharge reminder, power cut notification, and fault information.
In the first phase, 17 lakh meters will be installed in 7 divisions:
In the first phase, DGVCL will install 17 lakh smart meters in Surat City, Surat Rural, Piplod, Rander, Surat Industrial, Vyara and Kamrej. 3 thousand meters will be installed every day, from which 90 thousand to 1 lakh meters will be installed per month.
The power company is spending Rs 2600 crore:
DGVCL is spending around Rs 2600 crore on this entire project. The electricity company will take care that customers do not face any problems during this change process.
There will be no power cut on holidays:
In the initial phase, customer convenience will be taken care of. Electricity supply will not be cut even if there is no balance on second and fourth Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Apart from this, even if there is no balance, power supply will continue for 5 days.
With smart meters there will be less interaction between the electricity company and the customer:
After the introduction of smart meters, the interaction between the electricity company employees and the customer will reduce. DGVCL has set up a control room, which will resolve all complaints. In case of power cut, customers can lodge a complaint on the app and get a solution within 15 minutes.
