After 12 years, the Federation of Surat Textile Traders, the main organization of Surat’s textile market, constituted the members of the Election Committee to hold elections. Along with making Brijmohan Agarwal, Ashok Jain, Mahendra Pal Khurana, Shambhu Kumar Poddar and Gurmukh Kungwani members of the election committee, they have been given the responsibility of making rules and conducting elections for FOSTA elections.
Five zones including Ring Road Zone, Salasar Zone Marg, Begum Badi Zone, Kamela Zone and Saroli Zone have been created for the upcoming Fosta elections. After the elections in these five zones, the market presidents and ministers of these zones will be voters for the Fosta elections.
Giving information about FOSTA elections, Gurmukh Kungwani, member of FOSTA election committee, said that the representative will be selected on the basis of per zone market. This time only the president and minister of the market association of five zones will have the right to vote in the Fosta elections. Market presidents and ministers do not trade in clothes, yet they can vote, but they will not be able to run for office in the Fosta election. The delegate to the Fosta election should be a cloth merchant. A member or representative of an association with a parallel or similar objective to that of the Market President-Minister FOSTA will not be able to run for candidature. If the president-minister is on the post in two markets, he will be able to vote from only one market. Panel system will not be valid and only one candidate per market will be able to fill the form.
According to the rules made by FOSTA, it has been talked about getting the elections done by May 15. FOSTA has been expanded to accommodate the growing number of markets. Keeping in view that all market associations get representation, the number of directors has been increased from 31 to 41 from 5 zones. Elections will be held for 8 directors from 39 markets in Salasar zone, 8 directors from 38 markets in Begumawadi zone, 10 directors from 47 markets in Ring Road zone, 8 directors from 40 markets in Kamla Darwaza zone and 7 directors from 30 markets in Saroli zone.
