In a remarkable display of solidarity and empowerment, over 300 surrogates are set to grace the special screening of the much-awaited film “Dukaan” in Gujarat tomorrow. This gathering marks an important moment as these real-life heroes come together to witness a story that connects deeply to their experiences.

“Dukaan” has been carefully crafted by director duo Siddharth-Garima, who have taken inspiration from true events that emerged through extensive research. Venturing into the heart of Gujarat, the epicenter of commercial surrogacy, Siddharth-Garima immerse themselves in the lives of surrogates, collecting stories that will form the backbone of their film.

Set in Gujarat, ‘Dukaan’ unfolds the touching story of Jasmine (played by Monica Panwar), who embarks on a courageous journey as a surrogate mother. Through Jasmine’s narrative vision, the film highlights important themes of dignity, freedom of choice and autonomy of women engaged in commercial surrogacy – a theme rarely explored in Hindi cinema.

The film stars Monica Panwar, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar and Monali Thakur in lead roles.

Adding to the charm of “Dukaan” is its catchy music album, which features soul-stirring songs sung by Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Bhumi Trivedi, Aishwarya Bhandari and the great Usman Mir. Each song serves as a poignant companion to Jasmine’s journey, enriching the story with emotion and resonance. The entire music album of the film is composed by the talented Shreyas Puranik.

When surrogates from across Gujarat gather to watch their stories play out on the silver screen, “Dukaan” emerges not only as a film, but also as a symbol of empowerment, representation and an enduring sense of resilience.

In a world where voices are often silenced, “Dukaan” brings forward the stories of people whose stories deserve to be heard, celebrated and cherished.

Produced by A Jhunjhunwala and SK Ahluwalia under the banner of Waveband Productions and Siddharth Garima’s Kalamkar Picture Productions, Dukaan will release in theaters this Friday, April 5.
