Tamil Nadu multiplex owners ban The Kerala Story screening, cite protest and poor performance

Adah Sharma starrer film ‘The Kerala Story’ is mired in controversy and now the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association has banned the screening of the film on Sunday. Director Sudipto Sen’s film has been in constant news since its release. It has been told that the reason for the ban on the release of the film has been told due to the law and order situation caused by this film and the poor performance at the box office.

Confirming the news, Tamil Nadu Theaters and Multiplex Owners Association President M Subramaniam said that some multiplexes have decided to ban the screening of the film.

Poor performance at the box office has been cited as the reason for the film.

Talking to PTI, he told, ‘This film was being shown in some multiplexes of Pan India groups, especially PVR. The local multiplex had already decided not to release the film as there is no famous star in the film. As in Coimbatore only two shows have happened so far – one on Friday and the other on Saturday. Even he did not perform well. Only after seeing this, the theaters decided that they are not going to pass through the ongoing protests and threats.

Decision to stop screening of the film from May 7

The decision has been taken to stop the screening of the film from May 7 following protests by Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) demanding to stop the screening of ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state. It is reported that the protesters have also warned the people there not to watch the film and theater owners not to screen it.

Referring to the law and order situation

A report in News Minute states that the state government does not even want to ban the film and does not want to run it. It is being said that multiplexes have understood that they are citing law and order situation for their decision. In fact, the report states that a theater manager in Madurai alleged that the police had advised against screening the film and asked to be vigilant.
