Tata Play announced this today at the Tata Play Broadcast Center in Chhatarpur, New Delhi. Apoorva Chandra, Secretary, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, S. Somnath, Chairman, ISRO and Radhakrishnan Durairaj, CMD, New Space India Limited, an agency of the Department of Space, Government of India, were also present on the occasion. It was told on this occasion that now the bandwidth capacity of Tata Play has increased significantly. With this increased bandwidth, the company will be able to provide better picture and sound to its users. Also, Tata Play will now be able to broadcast 50% more channels, becoming the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all DTH platforms.

Strong step towards self-reliant India

Speaking on the occasion, Apoorva Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that congratulations to the Department of Space and Tata Play for the successful launch of GSAT-24. This event has taken another step towards self-reliant India in the field of space and communication. ISRO Chairman, S. Somnath said, GSAT-24 is a 4-tonne class communication satellite, designed to provide DTH services. It has started working with its maximum satellite capability after detailed in-orbit testing. This significant achievement marks a revolution in India’s telecom sector brought about by state-of-the-art indigenous technology. This is our tribute to our country’s aerospace prowess and marks the beginning of India’s successful foray into the field of on-demand missions.”

First demand based communication satellite mission
NSIL Chairman and Managing Director, Radhakrishnan Durairaj said that GSAT-24 is the first demand based communication satellite mission launched by NSIL after the reforms in the space sector. GSAT-24 satellite is all set to usher in a new era of satellite television in India. Proving the success of the Make in India initiative, the satellite will support domestic broadcasting services with state-of-the-art digital TV broadcasting capabilities. What is GSAT-24
GSAT-24 is a 24-ku band communication satellite. It is launched by Government of India only for DTH services of Tata Play. Incorporated in March 2019, NSIL is a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Department of Space and the commercial arm of the Department of Space. The entire capability of GSAT-24 satellite has been leased to its committed customer Tata Play.
