Tata Motors’ emphasis on strengthening sales infrastructure, demand for EVs is coming from small towns

New Delhi. Tata Motors is looking to expand its sales infrastructure in tier-II and tier-III cities to meet the growing demand. A top company official said that the demand for electric vehicles is increasing from these places. The company sold around 19,000 electric vehicles in the first quarter of the current fiscal and is looking to set up a separate sales infrastructure for its electric vehicle portfolio going forward. In an interaction with analysts, Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said demand for EVs is now growing beyond the top 20 cities in the country. He said, now its demand is moving towards other parts of the country. This is a good sign of how EV sales will grow from here.
Chandra said the market has now changed with the launch of the Tiago EV. He added that more than 49 per cent of Tiago EV sales are now coming from cities other than the top 20 cities. So, we have started expanding our network in those smaller cities,” Chandra said. While expanding to these cities, we are also building service capacity. Also, engineers are being trained for those service stations. He also added that the company may consider separating the EV showroom from the existing sales outlet to cater to the needs of the customers across the country.
