Tawang Marathon: Arunachal Pradesh is all set to create history by hosting the marathon at an astonishing altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level. Tawang, which is situated at an altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level, will give participants a unique opportunity to take part in one of the very few and possibly the most challenging high altitude races in the country.
This unprecedented event, jointly organized by the Indian Army and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, will take place in the border state of Tawang on October 1, 2023. The primary objective of the marathon is to firmly establish Tawang on the adventure sports and marathon map of India, which will ultimately boost tourism in the region.
This pioneering initiative promises to showcase the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture of Arunachal Pradesh to a wider audience, inviting enthusiasts and adventurers to take part in this remarkable journey.
Defense Ministry spokesperson in Guwahati, Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat said that perhaps this will be the first time where competitors will take part in a marathon organized at such a height. The objective of this event is to put Tawang on the adventure sports and marathon map to promote tourism in the region.
Apart from many marathon enthusiasts from across the country, the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force (IAF), and all other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Will field strong teams in this event. Tawang Marathon will include marathon, half-marathon, 10 km and 5 km races. The winners will get good cash prizes in various categories.
