Testing tea samples to ensure compliance with safety standards: FSSAI – Dainik Savera Times

Kolkata: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is analyzing tea samples collected from different parts of the country to determine whether safety standards are being followed. An official gave this information on Saturday. FSSAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) G Kamala Vardhan Rao said the food safety regulator had conducted a survey in the tea industry across the country and collected samples.

Now analysis is being done regarding the level of pesticide residues present in them. He said, “We have conducted a survey regarding the tea industry and are now analyzing the samples taken from there. We will communicate our findings to the industry. Rao said FSSAI will train growers, manufacturers, traders and everyone involved in the supply chain from tea production to sales.

He said that FSSAI has also sought cooperation and support from the ‘Tea Board’ in this endeavour. Rao also met Tea Board officials on Saturday. He said the food safety regulator has stepped up testing programs at tea auction centres. He said the food safety regulator is also increasing the number of temporary testing laboratories. At present their number is 220.
