Yogi Adityanath had ordered action by running a campaign against corruption and criminals under the policy of zero tolerance only after taking oath as the Chief Minister for the first time. CM Yogi Adityanath does not hesitate to take strict action against the criminals and run bulldozers on the properties collected from the black money of the mafia. A total of 170 notorious criminals have been killed in police encounters since March 20, 2017, under the Yogi government. The police campaign against criminals in Uttar Pradesh continues even during the second government of Yogi Adityanath. Since the arrival of the New Year, the UP Police has killed four vicious criminals in an encounter. At the same time, 14 criminals have been injured in the police encounter and 52 prize crooks have been arrested. Now in this episode, the name of the killer of Umesh Pal, the witness of the Raju Pal murder case in Prayagraj, who was killed in an encounter by the UP police on February 27, has also been added. Behind the murder of Umesh Pal, the names of dreaded criminal Atiq Ahmed and his wife and sons lodged in Gujarat jail are coming to the fore.

In fact, since the inception of ‘Yogi Raj’ in UP, the whistle-blowers of the bullies and mafias are missing. It was only after taking the oath of the post of CM for the first time that the Chief Minister had made it clear that the bullies, mafias and criminals would be sent to ‘Patal Lok’. Yogi has let his police open against them. They were ordered to adopt zero tolerance policy. He started reviewing such action from time to time. The dreaded criminals started being dropped indiscriminately. All the routes of their escape were closed. The decision started happening quickly. The police targeted the miscreants selectively.

If you look at the figures, you will get some idea of ​​the Yogi government’s action against the mafia. From March 2017 to November last year, about 170 dreaded criminals were killed in the Yogi government. More than 4,500 criminals rushed to the hospital after being shot by the police. Yogi has also been saying on public forums that if needed, the car will overturn and the bullet will also fire. After the Bikeru incident, the vehicle of the main accused Vikas Dubey was overturned and he had an encounter. Yogi had said this in the same context. Even when sub-inspector Ajay Yadav posted in Varanasi was shot dead and his service revolver was looted, the police showed aggressive attitude. These miscreants who looted pistols were killed in an encounter under Operation Patal Lok. In Varanasi itself, a reward of five lakh rupees was announced to the police team for killing the infamous Manish and Rajneesh of Bihar in an encounter.

After the formation of the BJP government in UP, the first encounter in 2017 was of Mansoor Pehalwan on 27 September. Mansoor was a resident of Saharanpur. There was a reward of 50 thousand rupees on him. The opposition has been raising questions on such encounters many times. But, the truth is that the record of all those who died shows that they were dreaded criminals. Because of them there was fear among the people. A large number of these were prize money. On one hand the Yogi government was running on zero tolerance against crime, on the other hand whenever SP chief Akhilesh Yadav got a chance, he used to question the law and order situation in UP. Due to this, when Akhilesh raised the issue of Umesh Pal murder case in the Vidhan Sabha, Yogi was stunned. With evidence, he talked about patronizing and promoting miscreants on the Samajwadi Party. Then angrily said that the mafia may belong to any party, our government will mix it into the soil.

Yogi’s prediction came true within two days as one of the accused involved in the murder of Umesh Pal was actually buried in the ground. A day before, Umesh Pal and his security guard Sandeep Nishad were shot dead by Atiq’s henchmen. Raghvendra Singh, the second security personnel injured in the attack, was admitted to SRN Hospital in a critical condition. Umesh Pal was the main witness in the MLA Raju Pal murder case. Arbaaz, one of the accused involved in the murder, was killed in an encounter by the police on 27 February. Arbaaz was the driver of the car used by the attackers. Arbaaz’s encounter with the police took place around 3 pm. Arbaaz was accompanied by two-three other people who fled from the spot.

However, if we talk about the encounter campaign of the Yogi Adityanath government against criminals in Uttar Pradesh since March 2017, a total of 10531 encounters have taken place in Uttar Pradesh since March 2017. 22597 criminals arrested and 4710 criminals injured in police encounter. During this, 171 prize crooks have been killed in police encounters. From the beginning of the same year 2023, the UP police had killed Kapil, a prize shooter of Rs 1 lakh of the Sunil Rathi gang, in an encounter in Noida. On January 2, in Bulandshahr, the police had killed Ashish, a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, and Abdul, a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, in an encounter. Similarly, on January 10, UP STF and Agra police had killed Vinay Sharma, a famous and vicious robber of Rs 50,000. So far this year, five prize criminals have been killed. 15 miscreants have been injured in the police encounter and 52 criminal reward miscreants have been arrested. If we see from the year 2017 to 2022, in the year 2018 maximum 41 vicious miscreants have been killed in police encounters.

In Uttar Pradesh, if we talk about zone-wise police encounters and miscreants killed, then from March 2017 to January 12, 2023, maximum 3112 encounters took place in Meerut zone and 62 miscreants were killed. There were 1804 encounters in Agra zone and 14 miscreants were killed. 332 encounters took place in Prayagraj zone and 8 miscreants were killed. There were 1468 encounters in Bareilly and 7 miscreants were killed. There were 384 encounters in Gorakhpur and seven miscreants were killed. There were 491 encounters in Lucknow zone and 11 miscreants were killed. 414 encounters took place in Kanpur zone and 5 miscreants were killed. 676 encounters took place in Varanasi zone and 19 miscreants were killed. There were 81 encounters in Lucknow Commissionerate and 8 miscreants were killed. 659 encounters took place in Noida Commissionerate and 11 miscreants were killed. There were 179 encounters in Kanpur Commissionerate and four miscreants were killed. 105 encounters took place in Varanasi Commissionerate and 7 miscreants were killed. In Ghaziabad Commissionerate, 6 miscreants were killed in 410 encounters and in Prayagraj, there were 113 encounters and four miscreants were killed. On this encounter campaign of the police, ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar says that ‘UP police is running a campaign against criminals’. When the miscreant fires, the police also retaliate, in which our soldiers have also been martyred and injured, but the campaign against the criminals will continue.
