Achievements of NDRF: Since its inception in 2006, NDRF has proved itself as an efficient force of the country by providing prompt response and assistance in any disaster.
2010: A six-storey building collapsed in Bellary (Karnataka) in January. The NDRF rescued 20 trapped living victims and retrieved 29 dead bodies in a well-coordinated round-the-clock operation that lasted for seven days.
2011: Won the NDRF Award for the outstanding services rendered by 46 NDRF personnel in response to the triple disaster in Japan in March-April.
2012: The NDRF successfully rescued 12 surviving victims and recovered 19 bodies from the massive debris of a multi-storey factory building collapse in Jalandhar (Punjab) in April.
2013: When Cyclone Phailin hit the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, NDRF battalions were deployed to evacuate people.
2014: When Cyclone Hud-Hud hit the eastern Indian coast in October 2014, NDRF personnel were deployed to rescue the affected people. They used saw cutters to cut down large trees and other metal objects, which were uprooted by the fierce winds of Hud-Hud.
2015: On 25 April, when an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 and depth of 15 km struck Nepal, India’s National Disaster Response Force was the first on the ground. In the rescue operations, NDRF personnel pulled out 11 survivors out of the total 16 victims.
2019: At least 58 NDRF teams were deputed to Kerala during the floods in August, the highest ever deployment of NDRF in a single state since its inception. Also to fight the coronavirus pandemic NDRF has played an important role. At present, even during the landslide disaster in Joshimath, the NDRF team is working on a war footing to rescue the people there.

These are few examples of the valor of NDRF. This humanitarian force has responded professionally in saving lives and livelihoods and preparing communities for any disaster. More than 51 lakh people have benefited from NDRF operations. If NDRF officials are to be believed, the force has conducted 5,268 community awareness programs during peacetime beyond disaster. 51 lakh 75 thousand 537 people were benefitted by this. Under the School Safety Programme, 1524 programs were conducted in which 6,44,225 students learned the tricks to deal with it in case of disaster. Similarly, 1,687 disaster awareness programs were organized in which people were made aware. Apart from this, more than 1,714 mock exercises were conducted, in which more than 8 lakh people learned the tricks of dealing with a disaster. Experts say that disasters cannot be prevented, but the crisis arising out of them can be prevented.

Apart from carrying out the above operations, NDRF is also working to make every section of the society capable of fighting the disaster. NDRF jawans are teaching the tricks of fighting disaster by running public awareness programs among the people of schools, colleges, government employees, police, local people, administration, etc., so that people can save themselves and other stranded people till help reaches in any emergency. Can NDRF is always ready at all times to deal with every situation of disaster and is giving meaning to its motto ‘Aapda Sewa Sadiva Sarvatra’. NDRF trains security forces in other countries. In the last few years, a training center for disaster management personnel has also been set up in the SAARC region. NDRF has emerged as a leading disaster management force globally. It plays an important role in saving human life and national property. This force has always been in the forefront in dealing with any kind of disaster faced by the country. Thus, it would be meaningful to say that wherever natural calamities are seen, the NDRF continues to do the work of saving the lives of the people by being always present everywhere for the service, to save the people.
