New Delhi: Indian benchmark indices started the session on a positive note today. The effect of boom in the banking sector was seen in the market today. Bank Nifty climbed nearly 1%, with Kotak Mahindra Bank gaining over 4%. Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India also made significant gains. Shares of Adani Transmission and Adani Green Energy closed at 5% upper circuit. In the early part of the session, BSE Power and BSE Utilities gained momentum and became the top gainers. While the performance of BSE Information Technology was the weakest. At 10:00 am, the BSE Sensex gained 0.53% and reached 60,165 points. At the same time, the Nifty 50 index rose by 0.54% to reach the level of 17,720. Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India and UltraTech Cement were the top gainers on the Sensex today. While Asian Paints, Tata Consultancy Services and Axis Bank have been the market draggers.

On the BSE, 2,120 stocks gained and 790 stocks declined. The advance-decline ratio remained strongly in favor of advances. Broader indices outperformed the core indices. BSE’s top smallcap gainer Vinyl Chemicals (India) Limited’s stock has seen tremendous growth today. Its shares climbed more than 15%.
