The moment for which crores of people in the country and the world were waiting, finally arrived after 17 days when 41 workers trapped since November 12 were safely taken out from the tunnel under construction in Silkyara of Chardham Alvedar Road Project in Uttarakhand. This success is the result of hard work and prayer. The result of the mutual cooperation between the Uttarakhand government and the central government to rescue the 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel, the efforts of the workers who cut the mountain and built the tunnel, and the prayers of their family members, relatives and friends for the rescue of the trapped laborers is that All of them have come out safely. On one hand, the workers trapped in the tunnel were fighting the battle of life, while on the other hand, outside the tunnel, all the experts from India and abroad, public representatives, relatives of the workers and local villagers were fighting.

The central and state governments had put in all their strength to take the war to its destination. The whole country was praying for the well being of the workers. Overcoming all the obstacles, the relief operation that lasted for about 400 hours finally led to the victory of life and the workers trapped in the tunnel breathed open air. The happiness on the faces of the workers who came out safely amidst the slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and fireworks cannot be expressed in words. Even though the workers had won the battle of life, the feeling of victory was also floating on the faces of the heroes of the machinery standing outside.

On the safe exit of the workers trapped in the tunnel, the country’s President Draupadi Murmu said, ‘I am happy to get the information about the rescue of all the workers trapped in the tunnel in Uttarakhand. Their courage in the rescue operation that has been going on amidst obstacles for 17 days is a testament to human stamina. The nation salutes his patience. Congratulations also to the teams engaged in extremely difficult operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘The success of the rescue operation of labor brothers is emotional. To those friends who were stranded, I want to say that your courage and patience is inspiring. I wish you good health. I also salute the spirit of the people associated with the campaign. This campaign is a wonderful example of humanity and teamwork. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced an assistance amount of Rs 1 lakh each from the state government to all the 41 workers who were evacuated from the Silkyara Tunnel. He has also requested the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to give one month paid leave to the workers.

Everyone including their families are feeling relieved when the workers came out safely, while experts believe that the standards set during the construction of the tunnel were not met. Experts say that before making any tunnel, an exit path is made along it and after removing the debris inside the tunnel after one kilometer, a layer is made of cement and concrete so that the chances of landslides are reduced. . The central government has ordered an investigation into the accident.

Keeping the above mentioned incident in mind, it should be the priority of both the tunnel construction companies and the government to ensure that such a thing does not happen in the future.
