Three products including ginger from Arunachal got Geographical Indication Tag status

Itanagar. Three products including special ginger from Arunachal Pradesh have received the coveted Geographical Indication (GI) certification. Officials gave this information on Wednesday. Officials said the products getting GI status include Adi Kekir (ginger), handmade carpets of Tibetan residents and wooden items made by the Wanchu community. Adi Kekir is a variety of ginger grown in East Siang, Siang and Upper Siang districts.
It is known for its taste and size. Handmade carpets made by Tibetan refugees living in different parts of Arunachal are famous for their unique designs and textures. The hand-made wooden crafts of the Wanchu community are also very special for their artistry. Artisans also make idols of Lord Buddha, animals and dolls.
Officials said the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is supporting the state government’s initiative to promote these products and providing financial assistance, Yak Churpi, a variety of sticky rice produced in Namsai district, Khamti and Changlang districts. Tangsa cloth of has got GI recognition.
