Tomatoes are being made available at cheap prices by NAFED and NCCF in Jaipur, Kota of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Bihar’s Patna and Muzaffarpur, Ara and Buxar including Delhi-NCR. These tomatoes are being bought by the government in bulk from the mandis of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

71,500 kg tomatoes sold in two days in Delhi

According to media reports, NCCF informed on August 13, 2023 that the organization has sold more than 71,500 kg of tomatoes within two days only in Delhi. In this, 35,000 kg tomatoes were sold on August 12 and 36,500 kg tomatoes were sold on August 13. In view of the rising prices of tomatoes, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told in Parliament that the government is importing large quantities of tomatoes from Nepal to control food inflation in the country. After this, both these cooperative institutions sold tomatoes at Rs.50 per kg through mobile vans. Now he has announced to sell tomatoes at Rs 40 per kg. Both these institutes are providing tomatoes at a subsidized rate to the consumers through subsidy. In this way, both these cooperative institutions are continuously attacking the profiteers.

Wholesale prices of tomatoes in wholesale vegetable markets of India

According to the website of Commodity Online, the maximum wholesale price of tomatoes in Delhi’s Azadpur Sabzi Mandi on Friday was Rs 60 per kg or Rs 6000 per quintal. At the same time, its minimum price is said to be more than Rs 40 per kg or Rs 4093 per quintal. Apart from this, talking about the prices of tomato in Delhi’s Keshopur Sabzi Mandi, its maximum price here was Rs 80 kg or Rs 8000 per quintal, while the minimum price here was Rs 56 kg or Rs 5600 per quintal. At the same time, in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, the maximum wholesale price of tomato was Rs 80 kg or Rs 8000 per quintal, while its minimum price was Rs 70 kg or Rs 7000 per quintal. In Maharashtra’s Nashik, the maximum wholesale price of tomato was Rs 90 per kg or Rs 9000 per quintal. The maximum wholesale price of tomato in the vegetable markets of Andhra Pradesh was Rs 60 per kg or Rs 6000 per quintal. However, about 578.80 tonnes of tomatoes arrived in Azadpur mandi on Friday, while 8,233.37 tonnes of tomatoes arrived in various wholesale vegetable markets across the country.
