K Ananth Reddy, a resident of Pulumamidi village in Telangana, has earned Rs 20 lakh this year from growing one acre of tomatoes. With this earning, he has bought a new tractor and Hyundai Venue car. It is not just K Ananth Reddy who has earned Rs 1.4 crore by growing tomatoes on his 5-acre farm. With this amount, he is buying a luxurious house for his mother, who works as an anganwadi worker.

Brothers Pasalappagari Chandramouli and Pasalappagari Murali of Karakamanda village in Andhra Pradesh have earned the most by selling tomatoes this season. Together they have sold more than 10 lakh kg of tomatoes. By selling these tomatoes, both the brothers together have earned more than three crore rupees. It is worth mentioning that even though tomatoes are very sweet in taste, if they are expensive, they become sour for the buyer, while if they are very cheap, they prove sour for the farmers.

These days Arpati Narasimha Reddy has also come into limelight because of tomatoes. Reddy, who lives in Saidpalle village of Telangana, is also being discussed everywhere about tomatoes. Tomatoes generally sell at Rs 300 per 20 kg. According to Anant, a box of tomatoes goes for Rs 40 or Rs 50 – about Rs 2 per kg. He also told about the times when he had to throw his produce in the drains due to high production and low prices.

According to information, a large amount of tomato crop was destroyed due to sudden rains this year. In Telangana, the acreage dropped from 25,000 to 2,000. High labor charges also made farming difficult. That’s when farmers like Narasimha and Ananth, who had healthy tomatoes, have found their treasure. In April, when Narasimha was sowing his 10 acres of land, he did not expect to earn Rs 2,500-3,000 per box. The prices shot up to Rs 4,000 in a few days, he said. “Didn’t even imagine getting Rs 3,000 for a box. “The roughly 150 farmers in my village together would have earned Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore, mainly through tomatoes,” says Narasimha. He said that now with this amount,” says Narasimha, who is now confident of getting his daughter to pursue an engineering course. It would also not be wrong to say that persistence has been the key to the belated success of these farmers. When tomato prices fell between February and April this year, people like the Pasalappagari brothers didn’t panic. Even after this, tomatoes were planted and a profit of three crore rupees has also been earned.

Let us tell you that Madhya Pradesh is the largest producer of tomatoes in India. But here farmers have not benefited much from the increase in tomato prices. In fact, the farmers in the state had sold their crops even before the tomato prices increased, due to which they did not get much profit from the tomato crop. Farmer Nivesh Jat of Shivpuri who is growing tomatoes. He told that these days tomatoes are coming in the market from Maharashtra and Karnataka. These farmers are getting very high prices for tomatoes. But in the new crop season, which started in July, it will be harvested in September. The area is expected to increase by 12 to 15 percent this season.
