Tomato Price: Tomato prices reduced in retail market, common people got relief before festivals

The price of red-red tomatoes across India had been skyrocketing for some time now. In many parts of the country, the price of tomato had reached Rs 250 per kg. And last week tomato was sold in the retail market for Rs 100 to 120 per kg. Tomato prices have now halved in the retail market. That is, tomatoes are now available at Rs 40 to 60, due to which the public has got a lot of relief.
Due to the reduction in the price of tomatoes in the retail market, the public’s face has returned to brightness. A statement in this regard has also been issued by the government. It has been said in this statement that until the price of tomato does not come to the normal level, then tomato will be sold only at subsidized rates.
Significantly, due to unseasonal rains, the price of tomato in India’s retail market had reached Rs 250 per kg. Now the price of tomato has come down, which has reached Rs 50-70 per kg. At the same time, a new crop of tomatoes has arrived, after which the prices of tomatoes have fallen. In Madhya Pradesh and many other states, the price has come down due to the increase in arrival of new crop.
Government is selling tomatoes at cheap prices

Finance Ministry’s statement came
With tomato and pulses prices softening, the pressure on food prices is likely to remain only for a short while now. This information has been given by the Finance Ministry. The government and the Reserve Bank need to be more vigilant in dealing with rising inflationary pressures. In its monthly economic review for July, the ministry said that going forward, domestic consumption and investment demand is expected to sustain growth. Private investment is now on the rise as the government has increased provision for capital expenditure in the current financial year.
Retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index reached a 15-month high of 7.44 per cent in July 2023. However, core inflation remained at a 39-month low of 4.9 per cent. The ministry said that the price of cereals, pulses and vegetables saw a double-digit increase in July compared to the same period last year. Disruption to domestic production also exerted pressure on inflation. According to the Monthly Economic Review, “With the government already taking precautionary measures to control food inflation, the market price pressure is likely to ease soon with the arrival of fresh stocks… The rise in prices is expected to be temporary.
