TRAI submits its recommendations on regulatory sandbox in digital communication sector

New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has submitted its recommendations to the government on ‘encouraging innovative technologies, services, use cases and business models through regulatory sandbox in the digital communications sector’ stating that the Central Government, in the telecom Create one or more regulatory sandboxes in such manner, and for such period, to encourage and facilitate innovation and technological development.
Given the new technological developments in 5G/6G, Machine to Machine Communications, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality and others, the government needs to provide an environment in which new technologies, services, use cases and business models can flourish. Can be tested in a live network, or existing tasks and processes can be refined. To meet this requirement, the DoT had requested TRAI’s recommendations on March 10, 2023, regarding a regulatory sandbox framework for new services, technologies and business models in the digital communications industry.
