Travelers often complain that air fares skyrocket during festivals, weekends or holiday seasons. Efforts are also being made by the government to reduce air fares. Which company provides cheap service

Not just on this route, there are many flights where the base ticket fare is less than Rs 1,000. All these operate under the regional air connectivity scheme. It provides various incentives to airline operators. According to an analysis by travel portal ‘Ixigo’, there are at least 22 routes where the basic airfare is less than Rs 1,000 per person. The lowest one-way fare for flights connecting Lilabari and Tezpur in Assam is Rs 150. Flights on this route are operated by Alliance Air (Alliance Air) does. Convenience charge is also added to the basic fare while booking tickets. Broadly speaking, the duration of flights operated under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) on these routes is approximately 50 minutes. Most of the routes where base air fares are between Rs 150 to Rs 199 per person are in the North-Eastern region.

Fares are less than a thousand on many routes

According to the analysis, there are also routes in the south like Bengaluru-Salem, Cochin-Salem where basic ticket prices are in this range. The basic fare for flights to and from Guwahati and Shillong is Rs 400. For Imphal-Aizawl, Dimapur-Shillong and Shillong-Lilabari flights, the airfare is Rs 500. In case of Bengaluru-Salem flight, the base ticket fare is Rs 525. As per the analysis, the base airfare for Guwahati-Pasighat flight is Rs 999 and for Lilabari-Guwahati route it is Rs 954. An industry official said that these are among those routes where demand is less and these places can be reached in more than five hours by other transport modes.

Why is the fare so low?

According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), 559 routes have been identified under the regional connectivity scheme i.e. UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) till March 31, 2024. The Central Government, State Governments and airport operators offer various incentives for flights under regional flight services. Among other things, there are no ‘landing’ or ‘parking’ charges for these flights. The Ministry of Civil Aviation launched the UDAN service on October 21, 2016 with the aim of promoting regional air connectivity scheme and making air travel more affordable.
