New Delhi : Most private banks are asking customers to bring officially valid ID proof to exchange 2000 Rupee notes. This ID proof is being sought from people without bank accounts or customers having accounts in other banks. But two government banks are changing 2000 rupee note without any ID. Even if the account is in another bank. At the same time, apart from ID, many private banks are also asking to fill a special form. However, if you have an account with that bank, they will only ask for your bank account details.

These banks are not asking for ID

Two public sector banks State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) are not asking any ID proof from non-bank account holders to exchange Rs 2000 notes. Other public sector banks may or may not ask for ID proof for note exchange depending on the instructions issued by their head offices.

Our colleague ET Wealth (online) correspondent personally visited the branches of four private sector banks and one public sector bank in South Delhi to exchange Rs 2000 notes and inquire about the required documents. The following information is based on what branch officials of various banks have to say.

HDFC bank

HDFC Bank branch is asking customers to fill a special form (Annexure-1), irrespective of whether they are bank customers or not. A non-bank customer who wants to exchange Rs 2000 notes will be required to provide the following information:

  • Name
  • mobile number
  • Any one of these ID Proof – Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Voter ID Card, Passport, NREGA Card, PAN Card, Letter issued by National Population Register containing details of name and address. Individuals must bring their original ID proof along with self-attested copy
  • ID proof information on the form.
  • The details of the number of notes and the amount being exchanged have to be mentioned.
  • If you are a customer of the bank, then the customer ID or bank account number will have to be mandatorily filled in the special form.

Kotak Mahindra Bank

Here also the bank branch is asking people to fill a special form to exchange 2000 rupee notes. Whether you are a customer of the bank or not, the form has to be filled. The form is to be filled with the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • mobile number
  • If you are not a bank customer, you must show ID proof (any one) Aadhaar, Driving License, Passport, Election ID Card, NREGA Card, Population Register. ID proof number has to be entered on the form. It is not mandatory for existing customers of the Bank to show ID proof.
  • Existing customers of the bank are required to provide CRN and account number.

IndusInd Bank

The bank branch is asking all customers to fill a special form to exchange Rs 2000 notes. A non-account holder has to provide the following information:

  • Name
  • mobile number
  • Address
  • ID proof and its details. ID proof can be any one of Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Voter ID Card, Copy of Passport, NREGA Card and Population Register.
  • The original ID proof needs to be taken to the bank branch for verification along with the self-attested copy. The person exchanging the note should personally visit the bank branch.
  • Bank customers are required to mention their account number on the form along with other details.

ICICI Bank

The bank branch did not ask to fill any specific form. However, they were asking non-bank customers to fill in a cash deposit slip and provide an officially valid document along with the mobile number of the individual.

Punjab National Bank

This government bank is not asking any ID proof from its customers or non-bank customers. A person can easily go to a bank branch to exchange Rs 2000 note.

State Bank Of India

This government bank is also not asking any ID proof from any customer (bank customer or non bank customer).
