Use of Sugarlite brand: Supreme Court notice on Zydus Wellness’s plea

The High Court, in its order dated May 12, restrained Zydus Wellness from using the brand name ‘Sugarlite’. As per the order, Delhi Marketing has the right to use the brand name ‘Sugarlite’.
New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Monday sought response from another firm on a plea by consumer goods company Zydus Wellness. In the petition, Zydus Wellness challenged the Delhi High Court order that it cannot use the brand name ‘Sugarlite’ for its products. A vacation bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice PS Narasimha issued notice in this regard to a firm called Delhi Marketing and sought a reply within three weeks.
The top court was hearing a plea by Zydus Wellness against the High Court order. The High Court, in its order dated May 12, restrained Zydus Wellness from using the brand name ‘Sugarlite’. As per the order, Delhi Marketing has the right to use the brand name ‘Sugarlite’. Delhi Marketing had alleged that Zydus was wrongly using the trademark to mislead the customers.
