Uttar Pradesh government made maximum purchases from GeM portal in the last financial year

The Uttar Pradesh government and its agencies procured goods and services worth Rs 12,152 crore in the last financial year from GeM, the government e-market platform of the commerce ministry, according to central government data.
The Uttar Pradesh government has procured the maximum number of goods and services as compared to other states and union territories in the financial year 2022-23 from GeM, the online platform for government procurement. The Uttar Pradesh government and its agencies procured goods and services worth Rs 12,152 crore in the last financial year from GeM, the government e-market platform of the commerce ministry, according to central government data. It was followed by Gujarat with purchases worth Rs 7,964 crore. Apart from this, Maharashtra made purchases of Rs 4,130 crore, Jammu and Kashmir Rs 1,999 crore and Madhya Pradesh Rs 1,983 crore.
In the last financial year, this figure jointly crossed two lakh crore rupees due to increased purchase of goods and services by various ministries, departments and states. The GeM portal was launched on August 9, 2016 as a goods and services procurement platform for all central ministries and departments. There are about 63,000 government buyer organisations, about six crore sellers and service providers on GeM who provide a variety of products and services. Presently Government Departments, Ministries, Public Sector Units, State Governments and Central Armed Police Forces can make purchases through this portal.
In the last financial year, the Ministry of Power was the biggest buyer among the Central Ministries on this platform. This ministry procured goods and services worth Rs 30,572.9 crore. After this, Ministry of Defense procured goods and services worth Rs 28,741.2 crore, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Rs 28,157.2 crore, Ministry of Steel Rs 12,527.3 crore and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Rs 7,158.3 crore. South Korea’s CoinApps is currently the largest platform in this category, while GeM is third behind Singapore’s Geebiz.
