Veteran Telugu filmmaker Vishwanath passes away

Hyderabad | Renowned Telugu filmmaker K. Vishwanath, who also acted in a few Tamil films, has passed away. He was 92 years old. Vishnath breathed his last at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad late on Thursday night. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee and five-time National Award winner, was suffering from age-related ailments. His last rites will be performed on Friday.
Born on February 19, 1930 in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, he directed more than 50 films.
Vishwanath was popular for iconic films like Shankarabharanam, Sagar Sangamam, Swathi Muthayam and Swarna Kamalam. She also acted in Tamil films such as Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Rajapattai, Lingaa and Uttam Villain and shared screen space with actors such as Kamal Haasan, R. Parthiban and Ajith.
In 1992, he was awarded the Padma Shri and in 2016 he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in India for the film industry.
In a career spanning over four decades, he also won the Filmfare Award eight times.
He also acted in over two dozen films in the Telugu and Tamil industries.
Vishwanath started his career as an audiographer for Vauhini Studios in Madras. He later began a filmmaking career under Adurthi Subba Rao and worked as an assistant director on the 1951 Telugu film Pathal Bhairavi.
He made his directorial debut with Atma Govaram (1965), which won the state Nandi Award for Best Feature Film.
Vishwanath became a national phenomenon with his award-winning classic Telugu film Shankarabharanam (1980). It proved to be a huge hit and is still considered one of his best works.
Shankarabharanam was released on February 2, 1980 and he breathed his last on the same day in 2023.(IANS)
