Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024: ArcelorMittal (ArcelorMittal) Executive Chairman Lakshmi Mittal (Lakshmi Mittal) said on Wednesday that ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) is building the world’s largest single-site integrated steel plant at Hazira in Gujarat. Global steel company ArcelorMittal operates a joint venture in India with Japan’s Nippon. Speaking at the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit held here, Lakshmi Mittal said the plant will have a production capacity of 24 million tonnes per annum. It is expected to be ready by 2029. He said that at the summit the company has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government for the second phase of the Hazira plant. He said that the work on the first phase of Hazira plant was started in 2021 and it can be inaugurated by 2026. He told that the bhoomi pujan of the plant was done in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lakshmi Mittal expressed confidence that with the support of the state government, the company will start the second phase of the project near Surat by 2029. However, he did not give any information regarding the estimated investment for the construction of the world’s largest single-site integrated steel plant in Hazira. Gujarat has fair, transparent and policy driven governance. He said that steel is very important to achieve the goal of self-reliant India.
Company also investing in hydrogen energy
Lakshmi Mittal said that her company ArcelorMittal is investing not only in steel but also in renewable energy and green hydrogen. Addressing the program, he said that the steel plan in Gujarat will strengthen the country to become self-reliant. In this event, the company has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government for the second phase of Hazira plant. Earlier in the year 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had performed Bhoomi Puja for the first phase of the plant. Its construction work is still going on. Its work is expected to be completed by 2026. Lakshmi Mittal said that when I came here last year for Vibrant Gujarat, PM Modi had told how this mega-global event has created an institutional framework based on ideas, imagination and process continuity. He said that PM Modi’s theme of One Earth, One Family and One Future is making India proud.
PM Modi inaugurated the program
Vibrant Gujarat 2024 was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is being organized at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Center in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. PM Modi was accompanied at the event by UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Mozambique President Philippe Jacinto Nyusi, Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and big industrialists from across the country are included. In this program, Reliance Group chief Mukesh Ambani has announced a big investment. Along with this, Gautam Adani has announced an investment of Rs 2 lakh crore in five years. Suzuki Motors has also announced to invest Rs 38,200 crore in Gujarat. The event will continue till January 12.
