Kolkata. Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya presented a budget of Rs 3.39 lakh crore for the financial year 2023-24 in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Last year a budget of Rs 3.21 lakh crore was presented. A budget of seven crore rupees has been presented for the financial year 2023-24. Before the Panchayat elections in the state, special attention has been paid to schemes related to rural development, youth, women and social welfare in the budget. A three percent increase in dearness allowance has been announced for government employees, municipal workers, teachers and pensioners. The increase in dearness allowance was not part of the budget. The Finance Minister announced this during the budget reading.

In the budget, it has been proposed to waive agricultural income tax on tea gardens for two years and to provide loan facility to young entrepreneurs. The Finance Minister said that in the financial year 2022-23, the State Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to grow at the rate of 8.4 percent, while the growth rate of the industry will be 7.8 percent. While reading the budget speech, Bhattacharya said that I propose Rs 3.39 lakh crore in the budget for the financial year 2023-24.
11,500 km of roads will be built in villages
He said that a fund of Rs 350 crore would be created to give loans of Rs five lakh each to two lakh young entrepreneurs. Announcing relief for distressed tea gardens and rural areas ahead of Panchayat elections, the Finance Minister said: Agricultural income tax on tea gardens will be waived for 2023-24 and 2024-25. In addition, 11,500 km of roads will be built in rural areas at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore. Apart from this, there is a proposal in the budget to completely waive the fee on the supply of irrigation water to the farmers. The minister has also announced an additional three per cent dearness allowance for state government employees, including teachers and pensioners.
1 lakh youth will get employment
The state government has set a target of 8.41 percent economic growth during the year 2023-24.
Beneficiaries of Lakshmi Bhandar will automatically join the old age pension scheme at the age of 60.

Budget dedicated to farmers and youth
Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee said that this budget is dedicated to farmers and youth. Emphasis has been laid on increasing employment opportunities. Schemes like Bhavishya Credit Card for the youth will create new entrepreneurs. Two lakh youth will be given a loan of five lakh each.
