As per WFI rules, a state association can send two members to vote in its elections. But the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association has also claimed that they are affiliated with the WFI and have the right to vote in the elections.
In a major development regarding the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the voting to be held on Saturday (August 12) following a petition filed by the Haryana Wrestling Association (HWA). This stay is till further orders. The Haryana Wrestling Federation has moved the court challenging the move to allow the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association (HAWA) to vote in the WFI elections. The HWA is headed by Member of Parliament Deepinder Hooda and is officially affiliated to the WFI and the Haryana Olympic Association (HOA).
As per WFI rules, a state association can send two members to vote in its elections. But the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association has also claimed that they are affiliated with the WFI and have the right to vote in the elections. Advocate Ravinder Malik, representing the Haryana Wrestling Association, revealed that HAWA is not affiliated to the Haryana Olympic Association, so they are not entitled to vote. The Haryana Amateur Wrestling Federation, on the other hand, claimed that the HWA could not participate in the election process as it was not affiliated to the WFI.
HWA representative Malik said, “If the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Federation is allowed to participate in the election process, it will lead to prejudice and at the same time the WFI elections will also be considered invalid.” The court took note of this and Said that it can create prejudice towards anyone and prima facie it seems that Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association is not eligible to vote. The High Court Justice Vinod S Bharadwaj’s court stayed the WFI elections.
