With this, Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s winning streak also came to an end for the fourth time. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had scored Amethi hat-trick in 2004, 2009 and 2014. Even though Union Minister and MP Smriti Irani is the lone declared warrior in the election battlefield of Amethi, her activism regarding the elections has increased considerably. Amethi parliamentary seat, which came into existence in the year 1967, has a total of five assembly constituencies. If we talk about the last three elections, the mood of the people of Amethi seemed to have changed. In 2009, Rahul Gandhi, who contested the elections on Congress ticket, won with a margin of 57.24 percent votes, but in the 2014 elections, the result was different. This time, Smriti Zubin Irani, who contested the elections on BJP ticket, fought strongly. It is a different matter that Rahul Gandhi won, but with the percentage of votes decreasing by 25.07 percent, the victory margin decreased by 32.83 percent.
