The data protection commission in EU member Ireland has given Meta five months to stop sending information about users to the US. The case began in 2013 when Max Schrems, an Austrian lawyer and privacy rights activist, filed a complaint against Facebook. He made this complaint on Edward Snowden’s allegations regarding electronic surveillance of US security agencies. The issue of US agencies having access to information recorded in the accounts of European users has also become a cause of tension between the US and Europe.
