What is PM Shree Scheme? How will children get better education?

PM Shree Scheme: To improve the level of education in the country, work is being done by the Ministry of Education at various levels. There are many such schemes which are being run to connect children to school and provide education with better facilities. One such scheme is ‘PM Shri Yojana’. PM Shree Yojana means PM School for Rising India. Through this scheme, 14,500 schools of the country are to be upgraded under the new education policy. More than 18 lakh children studying in these schools are going to directly benefit from PM Shri Yojana. The good thing is that only government schools will get the benefit of this scheme of the Education Ministry. Its selection is done by the ministry in collaboration with the state government.

Government will upgrade schools in four years

Under this scheme run by the Ministry of Education, large-scale work is being done to upgrade schools from the year 2022-23 to 2026. Under the scheme, the government will spend Rs 27,360 crore in four years. Under PM Shri Yojana, new technology, smart classes, complete sports arrangements and infrastructure will be specially developed for children in government schools. Under the first phase of this scheme, 6207 state government, union territory schools and schools of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and schools of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti have been selected. Rs 630 crore has to be spent for this.

What are the special features of the scheme?

Under the scheme, new schools are to be established and existing schools are to be strengthened.
To increase the availability of study materials and books so that students can get good education.
To encourage computer education in school so that students can use computers properly and are able to work with modern technology. Its objective is to enhance the education of female students and provide them proper education facilities.

School selection will be done in three stages

Under the scheme across the country, 14,597 schools were to be selected in three phases. For this, a competition is organized among all the applying schools. Based on the total number of schools, two schools – one primary and one secondary or higher secondary school – are to be selected from each block. Also, geo tagging of schools will be done for selection and monitoring of schools. Schools will have to apply themselves for the scheme. The government portal will be opened for applications four times a year i.e. once in every quarter. Schools themselves have to apply to join the scheme.
