Wheat Flour Price : To control the rising price of flour in the country, the Modi government at the center has taken an important decision. In fact, the next e-auction for sale of FCI wheat to bulk consumers like flour mills under open market sale will be held on February 15. The Food Ministry has given information in this regard. Food Corporation of India (FCI), a government undertaking, has been entrusted with the responsibility of selling 2.5 million tonnes of wheat from its buffer stock to bulk consumers under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) to control rising prices of wheat and wheat products in the country. Is.

The first sale of wheat through e-auction took place on February 1-2. About 9.2 lakh tonnes of wheat was sold from FCI depots in 23 states. There was a plan to conduct weekly e-auction on every Wednesday. The Food Ministry said in a statement that the second sale of wheat through e-auction will be held across the country on Wednesday, February 15. This means that FCI will not conduct e-auction of wheat next week and the ministry has not given information about the reasons for not conducting the auction.

FCI directs bidders

Meanwhile, FCI has directed all the winning bidders of the first e-auction to reduce the cost and lift the stock immediately from the respective depots across the country and make it available in the respective markets to bring the prices under control. It has been said that after lifting the wheat sold in the e-auction and making it available in the flour market, the prices are bound to fall further. Wheat is being offered with a reserve price of Rs 2,350 per quintal plus freight charges.

Rein in the prices of wheat flour

Last month, the government had announced plans to sell 30 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market from its buffer stock under OMSS to rein in the prices of wheat and wheat flour. Out of this 30 lakh tonnes of wheat, FCI will sell 25 lakh tonnes of flour to bulk consumers like millers and 2 lakh tonnes to states and union territories through e-auction. About three lakh tonnes of wheat will be given at a concessional rate of Rs 2,350 per quintal to State-PSUs, Kendriya Bhandar, NCCF and Nafed federations, cooperatives and federations without e-auction to convert the wheat into flour and sell it at Rs 29.50. Can be given to the public at the maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs.

Special permission to sell wheat and rice

Under the OMSS policy, the government allows FCI to sell food grains, especially wheat and rice, to bulk consumers and private traders at pre-determined prices in the open market from time to time. Its objective is to increase supply when demand is high and to reduce normal open market prices. Wheat production in the country had declined to 106.84 million tonnes in the crop year 2021-22 (July-June) from 109.59 million tonnes in the previous year. The shortfall in production was due to sudden rise in heat and heatwave in some producing states.

There has been a sharp decline in procurement this year to 19 million tonnes from about 43 million tonnes last year. The area under wheat crop is slightly higher in the current rabi (winter sown) season. The procurement of new wheat crop will start from March 15.
