New Delhi:Wheat price had reached a record level in January. To control this, the government announced the sale of 5 million tonnes in the open market. Due to this, the price of wheat and flour has declined by Rs 6-8 per kg in the last two months in the wholesale and retail markets. The Roller Flour Millers Federation of India, an organization of Roller Flour Millers, has claimed this. He says that at present the prices of flour in the country are running around Rs 2600-3000 per quintal, while in the middle of January it was Rs 3400-3800 per quintal. The federation has sought continuation of the ban on export of wheat and wheat products, including atta, maida and semolina, in the next financial year as well.

Federation told a press briefing that due to the Open Market Sales Scheme announced on January 26, 2023, the prices of wheat and wheat products have come down by Rs 600-800 per quintal across India. This has brought relief to the common people and the industry. The Federation also informed that the area under wheat for the coming season is expected to be around 343.23 lakh hectare. Despite the premature heat, a record production of 106-110 million tonnes is expected this time. The government has set a target of procuring 34 million tonnes of wheat.

Wheat Price: The heat of April in February itself, will wheat production decrease? Know what the government told

Price reaches Rs 45

The government had started selling wheat in the open market from January 26, 2023, which has led to a fall in the prices of wheat and wheat products. This has brought relief to the consumers and flour mills. Pramod Kumar S, President, Roller Flour Millers Federation of India, said that despite the low stock, after wide consultations, the government allowed FCI to offload 50 MT of wheat from the central pool stock. The Centre’s timely intervention has not only brought relief to the poor, lower and middle class, but has also benefited a wide range of industries including bread and biscuits.

Federation’s Senior Vice-President Navneet Chitlangia said that in the states where wheat has been unloaded from the Central Pool as per the demand, at present the rate of wheat in the wholesale market has come down to Rs 23-24 per kg. Similarly, in the states where the unloading process is going on, the price is Rs 24-25 per kg. Had the government not intervened in time, the prices could have gone up to Rs 40-45 per kg. FCI has already offloaded about 32-33 lakh tonnes of wheat through the e-auction process that began in late January this year.
