What did the agriculture minister tell
Tomar says that the high temperature in February has not had any significant effect on the wheat crop. According to the estimates so far, wheat production will be normal this year. He informed that ICAR’s Institute of Wheat and Sorghum Research, Karnal has prepared a report in consultation with State Agricultural University and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. According to that report, wheat production will be normal this year.
32-33 degree temperature in February
The minister informed that the temperature in Maidari areas of North India was 32 to 33 degree Celsius during the month of February last. During this, the farmers irrigated wheat and the temperature in the field remained two to three degrees less than normal. That’s why this summer will hardly affect the wheat crop. On the temperature in Central India and South India, he told that at this time the temperature there is higher than in North India. That’s why there the crop phenology remains adjusted accordingly. This month the temperature there was 35 degree Celsius, but it will not affect wheat.
Wheat Price hike: Flour became costlier by 37 percent in a year, if the stock is not released then the price may increase further
Last year’s yield decreased
Last year was no better in terms of production and consumption of wheat. Last year, before the harvesting of wheat, the heat wave had spoiled the game of wheat production. At the same time, the Russia-Ukraine war had started. Meanwhile, due to increase in exports by the Government of India, there was a shortage in the domestic market of wheat in the country. Its effect is still being seen on the prices of wheat and flour in the country. Open flour, which was available at Rs 20 per kg, is currently available at Rs 35 per kg. Although the central government is now taking continuous steps to reduce the price of wheat, but it has not brought relief to the common man.
Estimates of record wheat production
The Union Agriculture Ministry has recently released the wheat production estimates for the crop year 2023-24 (July-June). According to this data, 11 crore 21.8 lakh tonnes of wheat can be produced in the country this year. If this happens then it will be a record. Now the wheat procurement season is going to start in a few days. It is believed that if the production of wheat is more this year, then the procurement will also be more.
