The secretary said quality standards for wheat procurement have been relaxed in Madhya Pradesh and the Center will soon start procurement operations in Punjab and Punjab. Will consider relaxing quality standards for procurement of wheat in Haryana. Government agency FCI and state agencies have started procurement in many states. Earlier, on Monday, the central government had informed that wheat crop is estimated to suffer around 8-10 per cent damage due to the recent unseasonal rains and hailstorm in major producing states. Sarkar further said that this could be offset by the possibility of better yield in late sowing areas.
