The case started in the year 2007. The construction work of Ludhiana-Chandigarh rail line was going on. For this, the Railways acquired the land. Land was acquired from farmers at the rate of Rs 25 lakh per acre. 25 lakhs in one village, whereas in the adjacent village, the Railways acquired land at the rate of Rs.71 lakhs per acre. Farmer Sampooran Singh, angry with such huge manipulation in the amount of compensation, approached the court. The court also accepted the mistake of the Railways. The court ordered to increase the compensation amount to 50 lakhs. Sampurna Singh still did not agree. When the matter progressed further, the court increased the amount of compensation to Rs 1 crore 47 lakh.

Railways paid only Rs 42 lakh to the farmer despite the court’s decision and kept an outstanding of Rs 1 crore 5 lakh. When the Railways failed to pay the compensation amount, the matter again reached the District and Sessions Court. In the year 2017, Judge Jaspal Verma ordered the attachment of train number 12030 at Ludhiana station while giving the decision to take action against the Railways. Along with the train, the station master’s office was also ordered to be attached.

Railways did not accept the order of the court, after which the court ordered attachment and Sampooran Singh became the owner of train number 12030. However, the section engineer of the railway got the train freed from the court. Hundreds of passengers would have been in trouble if the train was attached. According to the report, even today this matter is going on in the court. This case is still being heard.
