Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his acting debut in 1999 with a small role in Aamir Khan starrer ‘Sarfarosh’. After this he played small roles in many films. However, during this time he was treated unfairly. Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a conversation with ‘BBC Hindi’ recalled the struggle-filled phase of his career.
‘The caller was caught and taken away’
On the arrangement of food on the sets and the treatment meted out to him, Nawazuddin said, ‘The arrangement of food here is also different. It is different for junior artistes. For those who are big artists, it is different and for those who are main artists, it is also different. But in some productions, all the artistes eat together. When food is served, everyone eats together. There are many productions where there are different arrangements. Many times I tried to eat in the main area where the lead people (hero and heroine) eat. But from there the caller was caught and chased away.
Nawazuddin wept because he had no money to eat
Apart from small roles in films, Nawazuddin Siddiqui also worked in TV serials. There came a time when Nawazuddin did not even have a single rupee and it had been many days since he had eaten food. Then he asked for a loan of 50 rupees from a senior actor. Nawazuddin told about that that the condition of that senior actor was also not good. Like an actor, his work was also not going well. The senior actor had only Rs 100, out of which he gave Rs 50 to Nawazuddin. Then Nawazuddin Siddiqui and that senior actor were crying badly seeing their condition.
Nawazuddin has 8 films now
Nawazuddin Siddiqui started getting recognition with films like ‘Peepli Live’ and ‘Kahaani’, and then ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ turned his fortunes around. Nawazuddin Siddiqui did not look back again.
