Why are the opposition parties of the country not serious about the eradication of corruption?

Instead of erasing the stigma of corruption, the leaders of opposition parties have proved that the total eradication of corruption will not help anyone by writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the misuse of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Not concerned. The opposition parties are not concerned about how the country should be free from corruption. Its suggestion or alternative solution was not suggested in the paper. With this, the talk of opposition unity in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has remained a fantasy. The opposition campaign against the central investigative agencies was thwarted by the Congress and the Left parties. The reason for the displeasure of the Congress is that when action was taken against Sonia Gandhi and her son-in-law Robert Vadra, not a single opposition party came together. The leader of any opposition party did not express protest by calling it wrong.

Opposition leaders have also mentioned in the letter the disputes between the governor and the state governments. The letter said, “Governors’ offices across the country are violating constitutional provisions and often obstructing state governance. They are deliberately undermining democratically elected state governments. Be it Tamil Nadu, Be it the Governor of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Punjab, Telangana or the Lt. Governor of Delhi. The surprising thing is that the opposition parties, including AAP, are criticizing the CBI’s action, but the subordinate court refused to grant bail to Sisodia in this case. Opposition parties allege that both the investigative agencies are conducting raids against the governments of non-BJP parties. ED and CBI have taken action against leaders and ministers of regional parties for financial irregularities and corruption. These include Congress, DMK, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD and Bharat Rashtra Samithi, the party of Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao, among others. Of these, Lalu Yadav, who has been in jail for many years, has not been able to even get his bail in the fodder scam. The CBI is taking separate action against Yadav in the matter of getting a job in the Railways in lieu of farmers’ land when he was Railway Minister. Leaders of opposition parties remain silent in such transparent cases of corruption.

The ED and the CBI are also worried that if the court makes an adverse comment or grants immediate bail after conducting raids without sufficient evidence, fingers will be pointed at the BJP government at the Centre. In such a situation, the allegations of malicious action by the opposition parties will get strength. Courts are an important constitutional pillar of the country’s democratic system. The opposition parties should have jointly challenged the action of ED and CBI in the Supreme Court instead of the Prime Minister. Similarly, if the issue of Governors interfering outside the constitution can also be decided by the court. If the matter goes to the Supreme Court, at least no partiality can be expected. It is also alleged by the leaders of the opposition parties that the country’s independence and freedom of expression are in danger because of the BJP government. In such a situation, when the issue is to obstruct the rights enshrined in the constitution in a legal way, then definitely the Supreme Court would have taken a serious view of this matter. Despite this, writing a letter to the Prime Minister without going to the court gives meaning to the saying of a thief having straw in his beard.

Writing a letter to the Prime Minister instead of the Supreme Court will only be called sympathy. It will be considered just an election stunt. The surprising thing is that on the one hand the opposition is telling the country is in danger from the BJP, but is unable to unite to save it from this danger. By staying away from the letter written to the Prime Minister by the Congress and the Left parties, it can be inferred that the plan of opposition unity will not be successful in the upcoming elections. Anyway, without including the Congress, the talk of unity of the opposition parties will be meaningless. Congress is the only party which has organization in every state of the country. In contrast, other parties are confined to just one or two states. The first condition of alliance is a joint candidate. This condition is not possible to be fulfilled without the Congress. No regional party would ever want to compromise on seats with the Congress where it has influence. The condition of the opposition parties regarding Congress is like neither swallowing nor spitting. The BJP is taking advantage of the political situation of the opposition parties. It is evident from the present condition of the opposition parties that whether it is the issue of corruption or dealing with the BJP in the upcoming elections, an electoral alliance is not possible among them due to vested interests.
