WTC 2023 Final Will Pujara Kohli Rahane able to show vintage game of shreyas iyer Rishabh Pant

During this, Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid established Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer as the pillars of the middle order for the future. Dravid was hoping to produce a better batsman after taking over coaching with the senior team in November 2021, but Shreyas Iyer’s injury and Pant’s unfortunate accident ruined all his plans.
Pant was the hero of the victory against Australia in 2020-21. Iyer also started well by playing crucial innings in difficult conditions. Ravindra Jadeja also emerged as a dependable Test batsman. These three won many matches on their own. It is interesting that the team management under the captaincy of Kohli was against keeping Pant as a regular in the playing XI before the historic win in Australia. Pujara, Kohli and Rahane were the first choices.
After this the era changed and the point of view also changed. If Rahane returns after a long time, now he can play at number-5 in place of Pant. But the way Pant, Iyer and Jadeja made charismatic breakthroughs, it also changed the way we look at Tests. They are aggressive and proved capable of turning the tide of the match in a short span of time.
Pujara, Kohli and Rahane are batting at a strike of 37.53, 44.22 and 46.1 since the 2020-21 Australian tour. In this phase, Pant emerged as a match winner. Pujara admitted that he went back to county cricket after being dropped from the team in 2022 following Dravid’s advice to make more of his shots. He said- Sussex really helped. It made me a bit more open minded and flexible.
The story of Rahane’s comeback is also based on this approach. He batted aggressively in the IPL and at the end of the Ranji Trophy season, Rahane had said that he was watching old videos of his batting to get back in that frame of mind. Well, most of the discussions on India’s batting lineup for the WTC final have centered on how India can fill Pant’s spot. Experts have indicated that India need to find an alternative who can bat as close to Pant’s style as possible. The question is whether Rahane, Pujara and Kohli will be able to make up for the lack of Pant and Iyer.
