X users troubled by ‘clickbait’ ads, no option to block or report

san francisco (Uttam Hindu News): Elon Musk-owned X Corp has reportedly launched clickbait ads that users cannot block or report. In such a situation, they are troubled by the new way of earning money on the platform. Miserable reported that X users were encountering unlabeled ads in their feed while scrolling.
When users tap on those ads, they are taken to third-party websites with no way to block or report them. “The new ads do not even reveal who the advertiser is or that they are ads at all,” the report said.
“Over the past few days, a number of X users have contacted Mashable to report seeing a new type of ad in their For You feed that they have not previously encountered on the platform.” These new X ads do not allow users to like or retweet ad posts. The new ad format also doesn’t reveal who is behind the ad.
The report said the type of content being promoted in the ads appears to be consistent with the spammy, low quality advertising found in ‘Chumbox’ advertising. These ads are now being shown to users on X Mobile apps. To deal with declining advertising revenues, X has partnered with third-party advertisers.
Unlike normal ads, which are only posted from X accounts and are labeled “Ads,” these new ads don’t have any accounts associated with them. X CEO Linda Yaccarino said last month that the company would be profitable by early 2024, adding that the platform could now have 200-250 million daily active users.
Yaccarino said 90 percent of the top 100 advertisers have returned to the platform in the last 12 weeks alone. According to him, around 1,500 advertisers have returned to the platform. X has yet to declare an annual profit in its 13 years, and has struggled to maintain profits.
